The Game

Eldritch is a Lovecraftian action roguelike. It is available now for Windows, Mac, and Linux.

The Developer

David Pittman makes video games. Before co-founding Minor Key Games, he was a programmer at 2K Marin, where he wrote AI code on BioShock 2 and led the AI team on The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. Frustrated by the excesses of AAA game development and feeling creatively stymied, David left the security of his job in March 2013 to make games he believes in. He holds a Master of Interactive Technology degree from The Guildhall at SMU.

David can be contacted at [email protected] and followed at @dphrygian.

The Studio

Minor Key Games was formed in 2013 by game industry veterans and twin brothers David Pittman and J. Kyle Pittman. The brothers have previously worked on a number of high profile AAA games: Borderlands, Borderlands 2, BioShock 2, and The Bureau: XCOM Declassified. Minor Key Games is based out of Plano, TX and Novato, CA.

“Eldritch really nails its atmosphere, and the desire to delve into its randomly generated, multi-tiered dungeons again and again.” — Rock, Paper, Shotgun

“Eldritch defies expectations. It builds something that stands on its own despite clear inspirations.” — Polygon

“The stylized graphics and sounds are effective at building an immersive world full of high strangeness and just a touch of dread. I'm eager to dive further into the Dagonian depths.” —

“Levels are labyrinthine and enemies are sharp, making for some satisfying adventures and daring escapes that feel unique and fresh, even if its your twentieth time through.” — Indie Statik

“If the phrase "Dishonored meets Spelunky" doesn't cause you to make an embarrassingly quasi-orgasmic noise, our tastes differ significantly.” — Anthony Burch

What is a roguelike?

Roguelikes are a genre of role-playing games descended from the 1980 game Rogue. They typically feature randomly generated worlds, turn-based combat, and permanent player death. Eldritch's randomly generated worlds and permadeath are influenced by roguelikes.

What is an immersive sim?

Immersive sims are a loosely defined genre of first-person games primarily influenced by the work of Looking Glass Studios. They typically feature robust AI and physics simulations and non-linear levels which encourage the user to play creatively. Eldritch's non-linear levels and open-ended play styles are influenced by immersive sims.

Who is H. P. Lovecraft?

Howard Phillips Lovecraft (1890-1937) was an influential author in the genres of horror and weird fiction. His most popular works deal with themes of terrible cosmic beings beyond the realm of human comprehension. Eldritch's setting is loosely based on a number of Lovecraftian tropes.
